                                     The Chicxulub Crater

The Chicxulub Crater is a very large crater that is located at the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. This was caused by an asteroid that hit the earth scientists believe through rocks and isotope analysis during the end of the Cretaceous period, roughly 65 million years ago. Scientists believe that this asteroid caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. The crater is more then 180 km in diameter. This major geological event effected all four of the spheres. The asteroid broke through the atmosphere and the impact into the lithosphere caused the atmosphere to be filled with dust. since the asteroid went through the atmosphere deadly gases were exposed to plants and animals. while the meter crashed into the lithosphere and destroyed lots of land and scientists found shocked quartz which was only thought to occur after atomic bomb explosions. The hit caused large waves into the hydrosphere and the water and dust in the air made dirty rain. What was effected the most was the biosphere because this event caused the extinction of the dinosaurs and other life forms like prehistoric plants and fish. This asteroid killed of 90 percent of species and took the earth over 30 million years to recover. Though exact dates and events are still controversial among scientists.
